Will Larter left this review about Hare & Hounds Inn

Like a lot of pubs these days, the previously attractive frontage of this pub is disfigured by the supremely ugly smokers' umbrellas now adorning the patio. Once inside, though, this remains a very good looking stone-built country inn, with flagstone floors and bare stone walls, here and there rough plastered. The bar is in the far left corner, and there are three hand pumps. One had Tirril Hare of the Dog, which seems likely to be either a house beer or one that has been rebadged specifically, dreadful pun at no extra charge, presumably. The other beers were Hesket Newmarket Scafell Blonde and Ennerdale Blonde. I went for the only non-blonde beer, but this was not particularly good, being a little short of peak condition, or possibly on the way out.

There's some nice furniture - tables, chairs, dressers - and some interesting pictures, though many are of the Scottish highlands rather than the English lakes. We moved into the farthest room to the right, to escape some loud talk about the property market coming from a neighbouring table, but we couldn't escape the CD of Frank Sinatra, who did his best to spoil an otherwise reasonably pleasant visit.
