No longer owned by Greene King, it's now a Pub People pub, with the same landlord as when I was here in 2017. He now has Bass as a regular, with a couple of local beers as guests. I called in while the pub crawl I was on was in the Tap & Growler over the road. The Bass here was in excellent condition, and there was a lively Friday afternoon crowd in here. Eastwood is known for the profusion of micropubs that have sprung up, but it's worth going off-piste for this one too.

Poor pub. Long room with bar to right side. Nothing really worth drinking so we had to resort to Strongbow. That says it all.

This street corner local is still going and still with Greene King, despite Alan's pessimistic assessment five years ago (see below). The impressive bank of six hand pumps was standing depressingly naked when I arrived, and I must admit my heart sank a little at the stainless steel splendour of the sole dedicated Greene King IPA pump. Nevertheless I girded my loins and asked for a half, which turned out to be in very good condition. This appraisal was a bit of an icebreaker, and the woman running the bar went on to describe how the landlord is in negotiations with the brewery about improving his beer offering - a blackboard on the bar back lists the usual suspects: Abbot, Old Speckled Hen and something from the Hardys & Hansons area of the GK stable block. The lass put me on track for a further pub tick at the newly opened Caught & Bowled half a mile down the road in Giltbrook, suggested I caught a bus there, or at least back (uphill) and expressed horror at the news that I had walked into Eastwood from the station at Langley Mill, which took me all of 20 minutes.

Speaking of horror, the staff and drinkers at the Tap & Growler across the road nearly fell off their stools when I told them how good the GK IPA was in here, while declining my invitation to go and try it for themselves if they didn't believe me. This is a nice traditional pub - a proper pub, as some people like to say - and I hope the landlord gets something decent out of his talks with the brewery.

The Greasley Castle is in the hilltop area of Eastwood and it is quite close to the Man in Space.
Once inside there are a couple of rooms and i have usually had a drink in the bar which is fairly basic, the pub used to be a Kimberley tied house and there were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Kimberley bitter and this was a very nice drink here the other beer was Kimberley mild.
Now that GK have taken over and closed Kimberley brewery down i car'nt see them keeping small basic locals like the Greasley Castle on.
