Graham Coombs left this review about Sawley Arms
A large and slightly rambling eating pub, basically an independent version of a dining chain pub, perhaps avoiding the worst excesses. There is a bar room on the way in, a couple of dining rooms either side and a little snug area tucked round the back, with serried ranks of tables outside. It is all quite comfortably furnished, with tartan carpets throughout, but somehow feels a bit impersonal. Ales on were Yorkshire Heart Quaffer, TT Landlord and Theakston's Best.

A very pleasant country inn that is very much food led, the beer is good and from the reliable sources of Timothy Taylors and Theakstons. The food is of good quality too. There are three areas a dining room at each end with a small bar area in the middle served by more of a hatch than a counter. Non generic candles on the candle powered tables and a little trad jazz played gently on the sound system. It's in Roger Protz's book "Britain's 500 Best Pubs", published 2000 but it wasn't true then either.
