E TA left this review about The Angel

A former 18th Century coaching inn built on the site of an earlier ale house, this fine hotel was originally called The Grosvenor Arms; the name is still painted on the wall of the stable block at the back. There is a pleasant country cottage style garden at the side. Inside, the rooms have been partially opened out to form a central Z-shaped bar, dinign rooms at the side and rear and a small lounge with sofas. There is an impressive brick fireplace in the main bar and a smaller brick open fire in the side room. It’s predominately food-led, and they have regular food theme nights. Food is expensive, as is the ale. There were two ales on, Butcombe Original and Otterfest Funk ‘n’ Soul, both in OK condition. There was also a dry pump. It’s a decent enough place to stop for a pint and a lunch if passing and makes for a useful detour from the A303.
