E TA left this review about Bath Arms

Recently re-opened after a substantial renovation (which is still ongoing), this historic village pub was once part of the Bath estate. In order not to confuse it with the other Bath Arms nearby, it’s known locally as The Shearwater. There is a large car park and a grassed garden with great views over the surrounding countryside. There’s a paved outside seating area in the courtyard. Inside, four rooms have been conjoined while keeping the original layout. A small bar on the right as you enter had an open fire going, while a larger bar to the left, which led to two dining areas, had n open fire which wasn’t lit, a shame as this meant the room was quite chilly. One of the dining areas has a woodburner, which was also unlit. Stone and parquet floors and other original features gave the pub a lot of character. It was quite a trek don narrow to the toilets, making feel like a cross between Wetherspoons and a Doom game. Young staff were enthusiastic and helpful. Ales on were Elderquad from Downton, Plains Ales’s Innocence, Stone Daisy’s Small Creep Hanging and Potholer from Cheddar Ales, all gravity fed from barrels behind the bar. There were also two unmarked barrels. Craft ales on tap were Goram IPA, Running with Sceptres, Angels’ Lore and Kicking Goat. Meagre but expensive bar snacks are available all day, while the fairly standard restaurant menu, which is also expensive, is available at normal meal times. They plan to start B&B next year, so it would be good to come back and try that out. A thoroughly enjoyable visit and one well worth repeating for its ale alone – food would be a bonus if budget allows.
