Wow! six years on and the pub is still hitting a ten rating. The pub sits quite handsomely in the small village of Whalton, which is picturesque. The pubs interior consists of three areas, a dining room on the right, a middle lounge and bar area and a room on the left with a small bar. The décor is traditional with white roughly plastered walls and areas of undressed brick. The owner was welcoming and served excellent well kept beers. My Jarrow Rivet Catcher was probably one of the best, I have tasted. The pub opens daily at 12.

What a wonderful experience! We stayed overnight and were very impressed by the accommodation and facilities. Two well-kept cask ales were on offer at the bar, Old Speckled Hen & Black Sheep Bitter, with a selection of wines and the usual lagers etc. The evening meal was well presented and with generous helpings, was a delight to eat. All the staff made us very welcome, so much so, that we will definitely return.
