I thought I had failed to locate this pub as the exterior was scaffolding clad leaving all the signage more or less hidden. I don't recall the exterior appearing white so presumably the outside at least is being completely redone.
Inside it didn't look to me in need of any renovation. It's a comfortable carpeted single room that bends around the bar. I spotted a dart board near to where I was sitting. It's what you would call an Old School type of pub. On the bar there were just two hand pumps with Batham's Best and Salopian Prohibition.
I went for the Batham's Best (£2.90) which was in excellent condition.
Just two beers seems slim pickings for a GBG listed pub nowadays but if they are both in good nick then it's worth a look.

I have a mixed review about this pub. I liked the pub's layout and thought the pub was friendly and well kept. My only gripe was that my pint of Salopian was served in a Carling glass by the manageress. Two ales on handpump, which were Salopian Prohibition and Bathams.

A white rendered cottage-style corner terraced pub, with red paintwork and a patio area at the back.

The pub is entered via a vestiblue that has some nice coloured glass in it. The interior is open plan in an L shape around a brick bar. The decor had white and wood panel at one end and red at the other, with beams and white ceiling and a loud carpet. The decor is broken by a large brick fireplace and chimney breast, with a stove fire and lots of brass ornaments and plates on. There is an eclectic collection of pictures and prints on the walls and a collection of jugs hanging down from the ceiling. There are a couple of TVs, only one was on with daytime stuff. There was no music. The place had a small but friendly mature clientele and the service was friendly. They do cobs for as well.

Beer; tap stuff with an M& B MILD, had a very good pint of Bathams Bitter on handpull.

A perfectly nice pub - only trouble is as a real ale drinker i go in for the Bathams, which you can get up at the Britannia, so it was my first visit for way over a year. Still, it was a happy one.
