Blackthorn _ left this review about Sawyers Arms

A traditional, no frills boozer located just a short stroll from the High Street, it consists of a front and rear bar with a central bar counter serving both, a fair sized garden alongside and a car park. At one time an aviary was an interesting feature in the garden, but the pub has changed hands since then so I suspect that is no longer there.

The front bar is the more basic of the two and had a darts board at one end and a plasma screen at the other showing the football, although the volume was off so this was not too intrusive. Décor wise it’s unremarkable with blue patterned carpet on the floor, painted cream wallpaper on much of the walls and some fawn wood panelling elsewhere. Blue padded bench seating was around the perimeter of the pub and there was a fruit machine opposite the bar. The rear bar is perhaps slightly plusher, but broadly similar in terms of décor.

Beers on tap were Doom Bar, Tribute and Courage Best whilst the ciders were Thatcher’s Dry and Thatcher’s Gold. There’s nothing really wrong with this pub, the barmaid was friendly and there was a good crowd of locals in on a recent visit, but somehow it doesn’t quite do it for me and I’d rather walk on to the excellent Old Barn.
