To outward appearance a square and almost forbidding building, this turned out to be a welcoming pub. Entrance is to the right hand side and it was much smarter within than the plain exterior promised. The bar is in the front room and I found a lively lunchtime crowd gathered around. The lass who was serving was pleasant and friendly, and my half of the local Beckstones Wotsisname was in good condition. The other beers on were the less local Theakstons XB and Hobgoblin Gold. It would have been nice to see other local beers, but the Hard Knott Brewery, which moved here from Eskdale a few years before had already gone out of business (I seem to remember one of their beers on here a few years ago, though I could be wrong).

a nice detached pub with beer garden area. It is a bit of a chocalate box lid pub, with the building being so square. It is in a lovely Georgian style, the upper storeys being in cream (with some white and black paintwork) and the lower in chocalate (with black paintwork). The interior had a couple of rooms, but the backroom was all in darkness so i didn't really see that. The front bar room is in white and wood panel, with a white ceiling and a carpet floor. There were a couple of fireplace, one either end. Old photos adorned the walls, along with some rugby league shirts. There was a TV (silent general TV) and no music (there was a jukebox). There was also a dart board. Beer; usual tap stuff with a nice enough Tetley Dark MILD. Two beers were on handpull; Graftan Olympian (fine) and a Hardknott Continuum (past its best). A friendly locals pub - one that i was pleased to have popped in.
