An historic pub with some superb, and possibly unique, glass screens over the bar counters. It is long and narrow, with a games room right at the back. Sadly it is now in the Craft Union group and cask ale has been discontinued, and with new management even the previous mainstream keg is being abolished and replaced with John Smiths Smooth crap. Worth looking in for the interior but don't bother drinking.

Very much a traditional place. Its all slightly Victorian-like inside and is a nice pub. Beer wise its not so good with only 1 of 3 pumps on and only Speckled Hen being that one. Its not bad but its not great either.

The Albert Hotel is situated in the middle of Huddersfield.
Once inside there is a small room to the front which has bench seating and chairs, the bar is up a few steps to the rear on the left side, there is more bench seating in this area, there is also a separate room to the rear which is square shaped and carpeted, the seating is comfy bench type and normal tables and chairs.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Copper Dragon Golden Pippin which went down well, the other beers were Black Sheep Special and Bombardier.
This is a decent enough town pub to have a drink in.

Roger Button left this review about Albert Hotel

Built in 1879 for the princely sum of £3,000, the Albert Hotel is a relatively unspoilt town centre pub that is probably more of a recommended port of call for anyone interested in Heritage pubs than beers.

The wonderful front bar (or Buffet Bar according to the wonderful etched pane in the entrance door) contains leather banquettes, chessboard flooring and an unusual bar counter with mirrored service partitions. A few stairs lead to a small and cramped middle section with a high stage area built into one corner. Beyond this, a small corridor leads to a rear function room that houses a piano and pool table.

Despite the “Unrivalled Mild and Pale Ales & Stouts” signage proudly proclaimed across the bar canopy, the beers are hugely disappointing with the 6 hand pumps bearing just the 2 ales, Black Sheep Best and Copper Dragon Golden Pippen, with the latter being off on my vist.

The pub has had a bit of a chequered recent history with periods of closure and erratic opening times which seem to have dispersed the many and varied groups that apparently used the place as a regular meeting point including the pubs own Poets Group and the local Laurel & Hardy Society. Sadly the only entertainment I came across was the previous evening when there was some excrutiatingly loud karaoke belting out that caused me to walk straight past. Despite its obvious aesthetic merits, the building has no listed status and given some of its recent uncertainlty, it could be at risk of one day being stripped bare and converted to a Dunking Donuts or such like so if it does hold any appeal, it’s best to tick it off whilst it is still there. It could be an absolute classic of a place but sadly falls short of its potential.
