Unfortunately, still flying the old steel curtains when I passed by, appropriately on the train, the other day. As its future appears rather bleak, maybe the time is right to record its claim to ‘immortality’: The Albion was the pub chosen by Hornby to be reproduced as its ‘00’ gauge trackside model for rail enthusiasts everywhere. No doubt there are still hundreds of miniature versions in attics across the UK.

According to the excellent book ‘Yorkshire’s Real Heritage Pubs’ (CAMRA), the pub was previously a Tetley house and was awarded ‘Heritage’ status by the brewery as long ago as 1985. As the pub still retains some high quality fittings, CAMRA argued the case for statutory listing in 2009, but were unsuccessful.

A real shame if it’s gone forever.
