Will Larter left this review about Jesmond Arms

A fairly rough shopping street pub in a stand-alone building with a high roof, giving it the look of a church hall (though I've no reason to doubt the previous reviewer's description of its origins). Signs on the side of the building announcing "real ale" should really have a "no" painted on the side. I noted a pool table and darts, plus a juke box which my notes made at the time describe as "loud and obnoxious", but maybe I was including some of the customers in that.

Conversion of a former glazier's workshop into a rumbustious locals' bar. Outside there are a couple of tables fenced off from the pavement; going in you first have to dodge the darts players strategically located by the door. A long, narrow and slightly spartan high-roofed hall holds a bar to one side, with a pool table tucked away at the back. Two handpumps sadly had clips reversed at time of visit but might have offered Hobgoblin and something unrecognisable. Very much one for the locals but worth including on a crawl if they can keep the beer on.
