Old-school sort of Spoons but quite nicely-kept, and larger than it looks from outside with an upstairs area also. A reasonable beer range, with two local ales from Rhymney and guests from Exmoor and Coach House, plus Wainwright, Bombardier and the usual trio.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Bears Head (JD Wetherspoon)

Modest-looking 'spoons in a parade of shops with a small frontage enlivened by some flowering plants. Relatively compact bar too, although there is a family area upstairs and some tables out on the pavement. Reasonable selection of real ales from the two banks of five handpumps, with the Rhymney Export (£2.29) looking the best bet.

The Bears Head is a smaller JDW consisting of a square room with the bar on the right and another area upstairs. It has the usual fixtures and fittings and was fairly busy on my Thursday evening visit.
The bar has two sets of five hand pumps which had two unused, Ruddles, Doom Bore & the International Shepherd Neame Todd the Axeman doubled up, Bullmastiff Son Of A Bitch, Rhymney Export and Glamorgan Cwrw Gorslas. I went for the Bullmastiff beer (£2.30) which was in fine condition.
I thought this was a reasonably good Spoons.
