On the main square, this is an attractive stone building which retains front and rear rooms but has been quite heavily modernised, albeit in a pretty tasteful manner. Bare stone walls and modern wood beams are the order of the day in the front bar, whilst the large extended rear section caters for the diners (of which we were two – grub was decent). Staff were friendly, efficient, and plentiful in number. Of interest here is the old sign which features Jemima Nicholas who, as the tales goes, achieved the following; “In 1797, 1400 French troops sailed from Camaret and landed at Llanwnda in Wales. Armed with a pitchfork, Nicholas led a group of women and rounded up twelve French soldiers who had been drinking, and held them captive inside a locked church overnight. The French surrendered shortly afterwards at the Royal Oak. She was awarded a lifetime pension for her efforts.” The local CAMRA like this one (GBG’22 listed) and there were four cask on; Doom Bar, Double Dragon, Evan Evans Warrior and Glamorgan Brewery’s Jemima’s Pitchfork (see, now you know…) which weighed-in a respectable NBSS 3.5. Pretty sure there was a Gwent-Y-Ddraig cider on. It’s a decent all-rounder here that’s worth a stop though as a pub experience the Ship and Globe I found preferable.

Nice looking pub with a couple of ales on. I went for Glamorgan brewery Jemima's Pitchfork which was excellent. Well worth a visit.

Historic and charming Grade 2 listed pub that had a good atmosphere and found this the best pub on my Fishguard crawl although i did not go in everyone. The pub had a good selection of cask beer and is favoured by both foodies drinkers and drinkers alike. The pub opens at 11am every day with a popular folk night every Tuesday.
The peace treaty was signed in this pub with the French after the last unsuccessful attempt to invade Britain in 1797 after the women in Welsh costume are supposed to have startled the invaders.Worth a visit if you are in the area.

Looks nice from outside, but once you enter if you like loud music and foul language then this is the pub for you.
