Bucking Fastard left this review about The White Rabbit

A sister pub to the White Rabbit in Oxford, from the outside it is branded more as a restaurant and pizzeria with a bar,but the interior still has a pub layout and some original wood panelling and stained glass. The young bar staff were friendly and chatty and said they would be interested in cuckoo brewing at a local micro but would have to change the beer name because the White Rabbit house beer they serve is brewed by Caledonian and is supplied by them to both their outlets. At 4.1% is was quite malty and indistinct. The other real ale options on my trip were Deuchars IPA,New Bristol Brewery Old Dick Alone and Good Chemistry Solar Impulse.
The interior is quite large,to the right of the bar is a dining area, while the long room to the left with it's own servery has large wooden tables and chairs and a hipster vibe. The muzak was too loud, while to the rear was a raised section but curtained off during a Saturday lunchtime visit. The pub was quiet and being on a crawl I didn't inspect the menu, but it was good to see some commitment to real ale.I got the impression that this new venture is bedding in,and once it has found it's feet it maybe worth finding out if they keep the momentum to stock interesting real ale,or simply slide back to offer the less exciting Caledonian brews .

Blackthorn _ left this review about The Richmond

What a difference a few years makes. Walking past recently, I spotted an “Under new management” banner outside, so decided to pop in and see what it was like now. First impressions were not good as there was a group of guys watching the football and you had to walk in front of them across their field of vision to get to the bar. The barman seemed a little odd – disinterested perhaps, I’m not quite sure, but he certainly didn’t make us feel welcome. With two screens showing the football at the front and rear of the pub at quite a high volume, it was difficult to find anywhere to sit where you could have a chat.

As it was a reasonably warm afternoon, we opted for the rooftop beer garden. Potentially this could be a fantastic spot in an area where outside seating is at a premium, but it looked a little scruffy and the astro-turf squelched under foot due to the recent rain. Clearly the ash-trays hadn’t been emptied for days as there were old fag ends floating around in a couple of inches of water. By far the worst aspect though were the numerous calling cards left by the pub dog – having to gingerly navigate your way around piles of poo to get to your table is..….well, I really don’t know what to say.

Despite three pumps on the bar, only one was in use dispensing Deuchar’s IPA. Ciders were a somewhat disappointing Symonds Founders Reserve or Scrumpy Jack. I think I’ll give this one a miss until next time I see an Under New Management sign.

Original review from 7th February 2011 –
After a number of name changes over the last few years, this is almost back to it’s original name. It’s now just The Richmond, having dropped the Springs. It’s a good sized pub and has an almost Victorian feel to it, with it’s parquet wood floor and plenty of dark wood panelling.

There were a couple of big old fireplaces, although only one of these appeared to be in use. The large leaded windows give a good view on to the street outside and there was a pool table in one of the rear bars. Landlord seemed friendly enough.

Menu is rather unusual with dishes such as eel pie and venison burger. Apparently if you get the remnants of any shot in your game birds you can claim a free drink!

Beers on tap were Courage Directors, Deuchars IPA and Hobgoblin. The solitary cider was Symonds Founders Reserve, and this seemed rather pricey at £3.60 a pint.

Blackthorn _ left this review about The Clifton Cow

A large triple fronted pub with several different bar areas and a raised section with a pool table.

It was very quiet when we visited with just four other drinkers in there, and they seemed to be there for some type of meeting. It seems to have been recently refurbished judging my the condition of the place. It is opposite the student's union building, so perhaps it's busier in term time.

The barmaid didn't seem to have much personality, but then possibly her grasp of English wasn't too good. Three pumps on the bar, but only one in use dispensing Courage Best. Also Blackthorn and Stowford Press cider.
