A rather good Georgian exterior leads into a cosy room to one side, with a pool table squeezed in the other, with a nice tiled bar area behind, then a long, narrow and more modern extension running back to a large terraced outdoor area at the back. A large historic wall map is a notable feature. Beerwise there were 5 Wadworths ales on plus on Old Rosie cider. The Swordfish was in excellent form.

The Broad Street Tavern feels much more like a proper town centre boozer. You enter the main bar through a corridor, with two small and traditional rooms either side. Beyond, the bar stretches back quite a way to a garden at the rear.

It's a Wadworth pub, which meant only Wadworth beers. But we hadn't had anything else from Wadworth during the day and the selection was varied - Horizon, Horizon Chilled, 6X, Henry's IPA, Swordfish & Burnt Orange. Weston's Old Rosie was the real cider.

The landlady was very friendly and keen to chat. Once again, the pub was eerily quiet. It was late Friday afternoon and the only customers were in the garden at the rear.

A revisit last week. Some idiot has painted the wood panelling grey. Guest beer of Hooky Gold which was fine but the price was eye-watering.

My first visit in a post Clive Wallis-world (after 15 years he’s moved on). Five Waddies beers on the bar including Swordfish and Farmers Glory (£1.85 a half). My Farmers was ok - no great shakes, perhaps nearing the barrel bottom. A real cider (Westons) also available, a rarity for the town. The interior is still a multi-roomed wood-panelled warren at the front though the rear area has had a refurb and is rather nicer and more punter-friendly than previous. The decked beer garden is still Wokingham’s best. Free WiFi available and what looked like a working sit-down retro arcade machine. The big screen was switched off and there was no background music. I do like this pub and I hope that Clive’s high standards are maintained. Rated 7

Continues to serve a cracking pint of Wadworth (plus guest - York Brewery's Centurions Ghost on Sunday) but it's getting a bit expensive, even for Wokingham. You won't get much (if any) change from a tenner for three random pints. Rated 8

Still doing a good job here, usually five Wadworth ales on plus Amstell and Chimay in bottles if that's your bag. Nice big garden out the back, with a bar for a busy Friday or Saturday. Also has a table service on when it's busy so you can avoid the arduous trek to the (admittedly stupidly small) bar, which is fab. Rated 8

A bit like a TARDIS - a lot bigger when you get in than it looks from the outside though very awkwardly shaped, especially by the bar/toilet entrance. There's a great beer garden out back. Hosts a good range of ale and though one of them was on the turn the guy behind the bar immediately went to change it when I told him, so credit there. Definitely one of the best in Wokingham at the moment. Rated 7

2nd of the Good Beer Guide entries in town. Nice walk through some architecturally pretty streets. In fact, Wokingham is very pretty indeed.

This is a greene king pub but they do offer LocALE brews and I went for a never seen before Twyford Tipple, after being offered an approving sample.

Decent enough pint but the head instantly disappeared, leaving it a touch lifeless.

A Wadworth pub with a long narrow single room that leads to a beer garden to the rear.seven pumps on the bar with five waddies beers, 6X, Swordfish, Bishops Tipple, Horizon and IPA with a guest of Island Vectis Venom and Old Rosie Cider on the seventh pump.
Decent.
