I called here too on Monday evening this week; another name change; it's now called The Hyde Dendy.

Steve C left this review about George's Carvery and Bar

George’s Carvery and Bar is on the esplanade and set back from the road by a large seating area full of picnic tables and a children’s playground. To the right of this area is a very big children’s paddling pool that was out of bounds during my visit a month ago, but I’m sure it is soon filled when the air temperature increases. The building itself is huge and the management seem to be trying to appeal to all as to the left there is an entrance to the Cavern which is a downstairs bar that shows Sky Sports, including 3D. To the right is the entrance to Club Evo (Evolution) which is open until the small hours on Friday and Saturday nights.
The entrance to George’s is in the centre of the building and the bar area is located to the left. A standard draught range is available and during my visit the hand pump was drawing Bay’s Topsail. Further on past the bar is the carvery serving area where adults can fill their plate for £5.95 and children for £3.75. The carvery is available from noon until 14:30 and 17:00 until 20:30 Monday through to Saturday and from 14:00 until 20:30 on Sundays. The price of a children’s plate drops to £3 on Sundays and there is also a bar menu for those not interested in roast dinners.
To the right of the entrance is some more seating that surrounds a balcony that overlooks the dance floor that is used when Club Evo is open. On the right hand wall there is a reasonable soft play area that is free to use at parents risk. There is a massive projector screen in this area that was annoyingly showing muted and subtitled daytime television. There is also a plasma screen in the bar area that was airing much the same.
I found the service to be friendly and it was nice to let the kids go and play to have half an hour of peace with the misses. Unfortunately some parents abuse the facilities and let their feral spawn run riot whilst they disappear into the bar area.

This is a decent family friendly pub, but I wouldn’t entertain the idea of returning here without the kids. I rate this pub 5/10 which is made up by 7/10 for its facilities for children and 3/10 for a place to go for a pint in the evening.
