Greene King pub on a corner plot next to a set of traffic lights. WhatPub promised 5 real ales. The reality was that they had none at all, with a couple of pumpclips turned round, one being Old Speckled Hen. I did enquire about the availability of real ales, on the off chance that something may be about to be poured through, but received a firm 'no' from the less than friendly barmaid. Real cider also appears to have been dropped since the last review.

The pub was as cold as the welcome we received from the barmaid. One of the real draws of a pub in the winter is to go and sit next to a cosy real fire and enjoy a decent beer. This one struggled to provide any warmth whatsoever.

A pub quiz was due to take place later in the evening. But with no beers and no heating, it didn't look likely that any of the customers we encountered were planning to stay on for it. Most were sat with their coats on and looked like they would be heading for the door at any minute.

Dogs are welcome here. In fact, they're probably made more welcome than non-locals!

GK pub. J shaped with white and duck egg shades. 70s-style comedy notices eg ‘lost wife and dog, reward for the dog’ (made me chuckle anyway). Dart board available and the pub is dog-friendly. Four pumps with 2x GK brews (Old Golden Hen, Robins Nest) and a guest in Hop Back Summer Lightning which was decent but had the dreaded GK twang (please GK licensees; give the lines a damned good flush before a guest goes on!). Cider-wise, there was a boxed Old Rosie behind bar. Service was friendly. Small side patio for al fresco imbibing. A point of oddity was the astroturf strips on every surface in the gents (bar the toilet seat, at least). 6.5
