Bucking Fastard left this review about The Falcon

A pub noted for it's food, but which still retains the charm you would hope to find in a country village pub.The surroundings are impressive,it's a very well to do area ,magnificent church and the place where Mary Queen of Scots lost her head, although the castle is these days no more than a mound of earth, over looking the Nene.
The interior is well delineated, with a seperate restaurant to the left side of the building extending into a conservatory, while the front bar is smart with lots of traditional furniture and exposed stonework ,two brick fireplaces and a few bar stools for regulars. You can dine in the bar if you want to be less formal but the loos are still outside across the courtyard from which is the only entrance to The Tap Bar which is an unspoiled public bar with a darts board, small serving hatch and won't be used for dining. As the evening wore on ,quite a few locals gathered in the Tap Bar.
The food quality was outstanding and the daily specials most interesting ,although the regular menu includes many pub standards but using only the very best ingedients prepared by a proper chef.Expect mains to range from £12 -£20 ,but I wouldn't call the vibe here gastro, more upmarket local.
The wine list was very solid ,many gins are available but somewhat out of keeping the ale offering from the three handpumps included the ever dull Doom Bar and London Pride, leaving the discerning real ale drinker dependent on the guest,on my visit Digfield Chiff Chaff, which sailed through the 3 pint test.Had the two boring low ABV national brands been replaced by Locales from respected brewers ,and offered different styles and a range of ABV I dare say I would have scored this pub even higher and it would have approached near perfection of it's type. Most definitely worth a visit, and a meal if your wallet can be persuaded to play ball.
