Conversion of a Victorian school building into an upmarket yet fairly casual gastro pub with reputation for excellent locally-sourced food. The expensive fit-out retains a number of old features, while inserting designer elements and tasteful decor. The bar is in a fairly plain room, with an adjoining snug area and an upstairs mezzanine level with some sofas. To the right is a large dining room, while there is an extensive outdoor area to the rear as well as a few tables at the front. Ales on at time of visit were Betty Stogs, Lushingtons, Tribute and Dartmoor Jail Ale and in very good condition. Food is not cheap but also very good. A bit different to your average village pub, but good for a swish nght out.

Recently reopened after quite a few years. A few bucks have been thrown at this place, which is going for the Griffin, Brecon/Gurnard's Head upmarket foodie market. Nice looking menu. Very expensive to drink. As the name suggests, the premises are a two-winged granite former county school, like the Tyringham, near Lelant.
