Strange set up in this bar with a traditional feel to the bar itself, but when you go through to the back there is a small area which has a covered courtyard feel to it, leading to an outside seating area. There were 4 beers available and we chose from Beer Ink and Box Social which were not in the best of conditions.

Will Larter left this review about The Dog & Moon

I'm sure the new owners of this pub would like me to say that a line has been firmly drawn beneath its former existence as the Shakespeare. I have to say I've never seen a pub like this: initially, entering a door marked lounge on the left after going up three steps, I came to a fairly narrow room with the bar in it. Leaving there with my drink I explored a little and came to a covered but seemingly previously outdoor passage/courtyard, where all the walls are either plain brick or have been stripped down to expose the brickwork. There's an atrium towards the rear, with a slightly raised area beneath it, and the whole area has been set out with tables and chairs so that it's a strange combination of room and courtyard - it's weirdly disorienting to not know whether you're inside or outside.

Returning momentarily to the bar, there are four hand pumps there, with three beers available at the time of my visit (see photo). I went for the Raw Black Forest Stout when a more sensible choice might have been the house beer, Dog & Moon Ale 4.3%, whose provenance I failed to query. My visit was just after Christmas, so the beer range may have been run down from what might normally be on. This is probably not a must visit for the average beer tourist, but on a hot June day that courtyard/atrium/passageway might be a pleasantly cool place for a drink. At the time of my visit it was just cool.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Shakespeare

Still branded externally as an Ansell's pub, this recently reopened establishment is still a bit of an odd mix. The entrance leads into a side alley, with oddly has a grand piano up some steps straight ahead. The wood-panelled bar is off to the left, with a few barstools and some tables at each end of the counter, but all rather gloomy inside. Just Hobson's Town Crier (£3.50) available from the three handpumps, and the barman warned me in advance that cellar problems meant that it would be a bit hazy (as it was), but that it would taste OK (which it did).

A strange looking pub once inside. It's all wooden floorboards with an entrance hall. Then up a couple of steps on the left to the bar. It has live music regularly and the rock jukebox was going at full belt on my Wednesday evening visit. 2 handpumps on the bar with just Timothy Taylors Landlord available which was overpriced and not kept that well. Luckily they have a quiz machine and I managed to win the price of my pint on it, so overall I was reasonably happy. I'll not bother calling again though unless something changes.
