Steve C left this review about The Brass Monkey

Brass Monkey is like a Wetherspoons, but with televisions for live sport, and background music. The bar counter along the rear wall faces open plan seating. To the right are a couple of booths and banquettes run along the left wall. The televisions throughout were showing muted tennis via Eurosport. On the bar, in amongst the standard and premium keg, are two banks of five hand pumps. Drink deals are available throughout the week, as are meal deals on the already cheap food. The Spoons pensioners have been swapped for students in here. I couldn’t get comfortable so don’t plan on returning.

Quinno _ left this review about The Brass Monkey

In theory a number of things that many find terrible about a pub – an open plan pseudo-Spoons in a modern building with some wallpaper and painted walls. However there were 10(!) pumps and all were on - Otter Bright, Gales Seafarers, Hanlons Port Stout, Hunters Blue Beards, Hunters Black Jack, Ringwood Best, Skinners Betty Stogs, Sharps Doom Bar and two ciders. The Otter and the Hanlon’s were both in good shape and the atmosphere was pretty good inside. I may have been pie-eyed at this point but it was certainly a bit of a revelation. I’d definitely check it out again. 7.5

Michael Wright left this review about Hog's Head

The Hogs Head is now the Brass Monkey [since 2010]

Went in Saturday afternoon, I honestly thought I was in a 'spoons, but it seems after searching online it seems I was not, may just as well have been though given the normal 'spoons clientèle abound, and cheaper than normal drinks, with a wide choice of real ales plus a very 'spoons like menu. Wish I had paid more attention instead of trying to avoid the scrumpy drinker next to me

If you love a 'spoons + customers then this is for you, but not for me, there must be better in the area but I was a stranger finding any port in storm, and it was fine for a quick, and nice, pint before going on
