Previously a Vintage Inn called The Barn Owl, this modern chain has definitely gone downhill since it changed brand. It sits in its own plot next to a busy road junction, and it has its own car park. The building is modern, brick-built, fairly comfortable. It has the standard M and C bull statue at the front, a colour scheme intended to give an illusion of warmth and the standard menu. There is no real ale. The staff were incredibly inefficient, and even though there was only one table occupied, and no queue, we were left standing at the door for nearly 10 minutes before the waitresses stopped gossiping and offered us a seat. I won’t be coming back.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Barn Owl

Although much extended from the original building form, this Vintage Inn does retain some character. It features a range of dining areas and a small seating area around the bar, with semi-modern furniture and decor. Large beer garden at the front. Two of the three handpumps were on when I visited, offering Tribute and Otter Ale (£3.40).

The Barn Owl is well known in Exeter, we are set close to the heart of Exeter. There is always a warm welcome with roaring log fires, freshly prepared food, a good selection of real ales and a wine menu for you to choose from.
