Well described below, I shall just add that the floors are flagstones and floorboards, all levelled to make life easier for the hard-of-walking and that the pub is dog friendly – indeed our canine companion on this occasion was spoilt with dog treats from the staff. The food was good but pudding portions were small and coffees were overpriced. There was the complete range of Badger beers available in bottles but only two on draft, Tanglefoot and First Call, both of which were fine but not the best I've had. It's a good place for lunch, but its popularity with walkers, locals and grockles alike make it necessary to book a table in advance, while it's not really cosy enough to make a good evening haunt.

Other reviewers have already described this delightful pub much better than I could, so I won’t try to repeat what they’ve said. By car, it’s at the end of road, with a car park that doesn’t seem to be trying to charge at the moment. By foot, it’s on the south coast path, which actually goes across the stream and through the pub garden. The pub itself I find very clean, comfortable and exceedingly full of character, being nicely decorated with maritime artefacts around the place and old pictures on the wall – not tackily overdone like some similar establishments - just, well, very nice. And the garden is a great place to be on a warm day.
Ales on handpull last week were Badger, Tanglefoot (£3.45 a pint) and Hopping Hare, all of which were well looked after. We also ate here twice, had good service and very much enjoyed the food both times. The problem with this pub can be that too many people come here until it gets heaving – it hasn’t been this week, so we’ve probably been lucky enough to find it at its best.

Set in a nice location in a dip between the foot of a hill and a small cliff. The car park overlooks the sea, even if the pub doesn’t. Parking is £5 but refundable to pub customers. Steps take you down from the car park into the beer garden at the front of the pub where you cross a small stream.
The pub, seemingly, is popular with holidaymakers staying locally. The pub has a rustic looking open plan interior with wooden supports and low ceiling beams near the bar. Candles were lit on the tables which felt a bit strange given the bright afternoon sun. Toilet were modern and clean which is reassuring for a place that relies heavily on its food trade.
Staff were very attentive initially – I wasn’t sure whether they were gearing up for a busy evening or whether they were suspicious of me trying to be observant. Just under half an hour had elapsed between me paying for my car park ticket and finishing my sausage and bubble & squeak. Good if you like fast service but a little unsettling if you wanted to take your time and be assured that your food was freshly prepared (which it can’t have been). I thought £8 was a bit pricey, considering there were no extra veg. I would have added a dessert but the staff didn’t follow up with the dessert menu with the same persistence that they showed with getting us to order our main meal.
3 ales on handpull were Badger’s First Gold, Tangle Foot and Firkin Fox.
Decent enough place in a nice location, even if it had a Pubco feel to it. I’d go along with Soup D – a nice safe place to take your family.

A detached Hall & Woodhouse pub, hotel and eatery that consists of about three separate cottages merged into one. It has a part stone and part white painted brick exterior. It has lovely grounds, indeed a little river at the front, with a patio, beer garden and kid's play area. The car-park, up the hill, costs £5 - though this is refunded if using the pub.
The interior is open plan-ish, allowing for the fact that it is in three former building, but is foody orientated. The first area is the stone exterior part, the interior being in blue and blue painted wood panel. This area is for dining and has a wood floor, wood ceiling beams and a sone hearth, with a stove in. The two other parts (white brick exterior) are in cream and red and wood panel, also with light wood ceiling and support beams, with a wood and stone mix floor. There are old photos and prints of the sea and ships and there is also a fireplace. The service was good, the clientele family based and it was busy. There was no TV that i saw and no music. Free apples was the closest i got to eating here, alas and free newspapers were also on offer.
Beer; tap stuff with the H&W offerings of Badger, Tanglefoot and Fursty Ferret on handpull, as well as a full selection of their bottled beer. The Tanglefoot was decent and i had a bottle of Poacher's Choice, which was class.
A really good example of a family pub/eatery - nice surroundings, activities for the kids, food if required, decent beer and good service. We went outside as it was a hot day (Sep visit) and the only criticism i could have was perhaps it was too popular - i am miserable after all.
