Well described below, I would add that there are equestrian facilities including a tether bar and mounting block, so it's an excellent place to stop for a mid-ride pint. The garden is very pleasant and extensive, and it includes lawns, flower beds and plenty of well-kept seating from which to enjoy the wide views across the countryside. Ales on this visit were 3 from Wadworth, - 6X, Horizon and Swordfish, plus Yates's Amber. All were in first class condition. There were dog treats available from the bar, freshly cooked human food in the restaurant area and real cider on tap as well as a pretty good (though over-priced) wine list. There was a dog bed which the owner was happy to share with other customers of the same species. They run regular quiz nights. Food and beer remain expensive, but as has been mentioned it keeps the low-lifes out. The clientele was a mix of locals from all income groups, all of whom were most welcoming and friendly, as were the staff. Although, as BF states below, the pub atmosphere is a little thin, I should be very happy to come back here anytime for beer or a really good meal.

A good looking stone built country inn, partially thatched ,opposite the church and on a ridge .The interior has a lot of exposed stonework, and off the entrance corridor there is a charming side snug with comfy chairs,a real fire and neatly stacked logs.To the left is the tap room ,L shaped with wooden furniture throughout and a mixed area where drinkers could pitch down, but where folk will also eat in the gastro surroundings. At the rear of the building there is a restaurant ,with french windows leading onto a neat beer garden. The restaurant is not too formal and it has it's own access to the island bar, service was very attentive.
It's a Wadworth tied house which explains the presence of 6X,Horizon and a low strength IPA ,but thankfully two guests are also carried ,on my trip Clark's Blonde and a very decent Everards Old Original. The food is very well cooked from a short but classy menu with mains hovering around £14 -£20,starters around £8 and traditional bar snacks if that's all you want.
The beer garden gives good views although in the distance new suburbs of Yeovil come into view. There are letting rooms and the AA have awarded 5 stars.
I will most certainly return for the food, and although it doesn't have a boozer atmosphere, you could happily quaff a guest ale or two.

Certainly an establishment looking to attract a higher class of clientele, you won't find the knuckle dragging Neanderthals of nearby Yeovil dragging their screaming hoardes of braying brats in. Its a multi - roomed stone or earthen tiled floor building. You enter down a corridor with wood cladding and enter the bar to the left. There is another room to the right with a welcome log fire. Being a Waddie's pub there was Bishop's Tipple, 6x and Small Beer (2.8%) available. The pub caters extensively for diners and there were a few eating in the area beyond the bar. No sign of Hooray Henrys on this occasion but the "B****y begging dog" was still in evidence. If a pub pertains to be serious about food I would not allow a dog to pester diners.
A nice pub and I would go back.

A good higher class village pub - very welcoming landlord and efficient staff, excellent well-kept ales (Wadsworths - Bishop's Tipple, 6X, Horizon and Henry's IPA), extensive but overly-expensive menu (our 3-course for two plus two pints and a bottle of moderately priced wine was over £120) and coffees. On balance not really worth it. I would have rated it higher but for the expense, too many noisy 'Hooray Henry' types and a bloody begging pub dog allowed to roam the restaurant at will.

A little gem in the heart of Dorset, the food is great, the beer is perfectly kept and the service is exceptional. There is always something on, hog roasts, village cricket matches, live music and even a halloween party! A truly great pub!!
