Will Larter left this review about The George Payne

A large corner pub with multiple doors the only vestige of its previous layout: it is now all one large space, in alehouse style: a plain wooden floor and a bar counter in wood, stained dark on top but painted blue/grey below to match the wood panelling on the walls. A real fire and background music complete the picture. There are five hand pumps on the bar, and a friendly welcome from the young woman working behind it. There were two real ciders and three real ales on at the time of my visit (see photo). Perhaps not the best pub around here, but definitely worth a visit.

Steve C left this review about The Kendal Arms

During my recent midweek evening visit to the Kendal I didn’t venture into the larger rear bar area as it was empty, but I did espy a pool table through the back of the bar. I spent my brief visit in the smaller L shaped front bar area along with the other handful of people present in the pub. Standard draught is available from the bar and one of the two hand pumps was unused leaving WJ King’s Brighton Best as the only ale choice. To the right of the bar is a dartboard and above the front entrance is a television. This was showing muted football results via BBC on the red button and the Radio Five Live was commentating on a match in the background. So no Sky Sports, but the next best thing for footie fans.

I found the manager to be very friendly, but found the pub to be a bit tired and in need of a lick of paint and some of the furniture could do with being reupholstered. I’ll not be rushing back to this pub anytime soon.
