Old Boots left this review about The Mission

A very odd large space of several forms, one corner is cosy with books and bench seating, there’s a raised area with wood and stained glass, another hidden away behind some arches in what could have been a Chapel, a mad brick fireplace. It has a shallow U shaped counter morphing into a food servery. The only real ale is Old Mill Bitter plus all your favourites in the keg line. Architecturally mad as a box of frogs.

This conversion of an old seaman's mission and chapel could have been so much better. The building looks fantastic on approaching, but once inside there's such a horrible mish-mash of deliberately naff brickwork, with reclaimed bricks laid any old how and interspersed with old gin bottles and even crushed lager cans, that it almost made me feel sick to look at it. The bar takes up a lot of room along the back wall, but with only Old Mill ordinary bitter available on the handful of hand pumps, there was little of interest for me there either. In fact, the beer I was served was in such poor condition that it was on the borderline of being complainable.

Very large impressive pub converted from a seamans mission. It still has the chapel, complete with stained glass windows, as one of the rooms. There are also 2 raised areas to the left of the entrance as you enter. There's a separate entrance to the side for very busy times. There's loads of seating in most of the areas and a space for vertical drinking in front of the bar. We called in on a Monday night when it acts as a pre club venue for the Sugar Mill across the road. It was very quiet at 9:30, but I'll bet it gets rather busier later on. A massive bar with 3 handpumps, but just the one solitary cask ale Old Mill Bitter, which was in decent nick. It's worth calling in for a look at the impressive interior alone, although I'm guessing Friday night at 11 might not be the time to try it.

The Mission is an Old Mill tied house it is in the old town area.
The pub is very large inside with a large main room and other seating areas around it,the pub was fairly quiet when i came in i think it is more ot a night time pub.
I had a drink of Old Mill Bitter but this was well below par,if the beer was better i would have considered going in here again.

I am surprised that no one has found this gem.Well actually they have, but no one has commented on it,because friday and saturday nights it heaving.A tied house with the Snaith Brewery this is the old seamans mission accross the road from where the last slave in England was freed. This is one of my favorite pubs in HULL the quirk is the pub and if you havent been go for lunch. Then friday night get your dancing shoes on its alive.I'll just say chapel and take a visit.Secret shopper had a bad pint down too the barman hadn't got a clue about cask ale and don't bother any week day night its quiet and the beer yuck.
