Quiet visit on a Saturday afternoon. Handy for the bus stop on the main road and opposite another GBG tick - which doesnt open till 3pm.

Through the front door and no noise at all from the handful of punters. TV's off, but all heads seemed to be looking at them.

To the bar - a table mounted menu of German and Belgian bottles something a little different - but I stuck with a TT Landlord - which was fine.

Managed to be in an out for the next bus. They come every 20 minutes.

I was the second customer through the door just after 12, the first clearly being a regular and greeted by name by the lass behind the bar. After serving me she observed that I was new to the pub, and I explained something about beer tourism and pub ticking. She was very helpful and friendly, telling me which other pubs were likely to be open and even looking up the Test Match score when my phone failed to connect to the wifi. I was told that it can get busy, especially summer weekends, as there is hard standing behind the pub for motorhomes.

A banner on the pub front proudly proclaims this to be an Independent Free House. The décor, hand pumps and keg fonts (14 of them) are as described by Ray (below); I had Landlord, the others being a hoppy pale from Salopian and Oakham Citra. My beer was in very good condition and I received a cheery wave as I left the pub. A good start to the day.

This pub is now a Freehouse as Fool Hardy have now left. This large corner pub is contemporary in décor with painted walls, some feature wallpapered areas and upholstered bench seating. The layout consists of a large L shaped room, with the bar facing you as you enter, a log burning stove positioned in a internal wall, which heats two areas. There was a further room on the right and a games room at the back. Four handpumps with three beers, Elland Blonde, Outstanding Beers Blonde and TT Landlord. The handpumps were positioned over on the right hand side of the front bar and the rest of the bar space was taken up by big ugly T bars, in the form of stainless steel pipework across the whole bar. I found it difficult to even see the manageress when paying and it was awkward when you were paying for your drinks.
