Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Nursery Inn
Substantial backstreet local, retaining its original layout with four remarkable rooms (each with their own servery) around the central servery. All very tidy, with variations of highly attractive 1930s furniture and decor in each area. It was too dark to see the rear bowling green properly when I visited, but you could see this being a fine spot in sunny weather. As a Hydes house, 1863 (Original) Bitter, Lowry, Old Indie mild (£2.54) and the seasonal Hoppy Appeal and First Frost were available from various handpumps scattered around the counters. Already busy late on a Friday afternoon, and you could see why; this class act is well worth a special visit.

This is an ex CAMRA National Pub Of The Year (2001). It's a recently, sympathetically, refurbished community pub right in the middle of a good quality estate. Two large rooms, both nicely done, with a small snug with a separate entrance to the side. Lot's of great wood panelling as part of its "Nationally Important Pub Interior". Well priced, good looking meals were coming out of the kitchen on my Friday, early evening visit. 9 handpumps on the bar, beers are mainly from Hydes including their Beer Studio micro, plus a couple of guest ales. My pint was in very good nick and I settled down in the busy, buzzy front room. This is a very well run pub and if I lived around here this would be my local.

This was our first pub to visit on the day and what a good place to start. We walked up from the station and this was at least a 20 min walk. We arrived just on opening time which is 11.30. First job was to sample their Hydes beers, which I have to say, were all kept extremely well. The manager and staff were friendly and chatty and made you feel very welcome. We decided to stay for lunch as prices were good and when we saw what was coming out of the kitchen, how could we refuse - so top marks to the food also.
There were seven ales on, so we went for the Hydes Manchester Bitter, Lowry and 1893 Light Mild. Great pub and well worth a visit.

In an attractive, leafy residential area, a mile or so north of Stockport, is The Nursery Inn, a large unspoilt 1930’s suburban roadhouse set in a narrow cobbled cul de sac which is part of a conservation area and forms the southern end of Green Lane.
As we enter the pub, we see a mat in the doorway reminding us that The Nursery Inn was CAMRA National Pub of the Year in 2001, together with a splendid collection of CAMRA Good Beer Guide stickers on the doors glasswork.
Just inside the door on the wall, we see a framed potted history of the pub from which we learn that the pub used to be the headquarters of Stockport County A F C ( now sadly languishing in the Blue Square Premier League ) when the club’s ground was behind the pub..
It’s a large multi roomed well appointed pub with a carpeted and comfortable oak panelled lounge at the front which is used as a dining room at meal times. Here we have fixed seating, an old brick fireplace and old bell pushes by the seats.
Passing down the corridor we reach a smoke room. This is similar in style to the lounge, but does not have the intact oak panelling of that room. The walls are decorated with old pictures of the pub and the area, some Hydes Brewery memorabilia and many photos of the pub’s bowling teams over the years. A large bay window with some Art Nouveau glasswork depicting gardening implements overlooks the bowling green. A central three sided bar servery serves both rooms, together with the small bar lobby. There’s a downstairs vault with its own separate entrance at the other end of the building, which is not always open and I didn’t get to see it.
In the corridor, there’s a large trophy cabinet and we learn that The Nursery Bowling Club was established in 1917 and a list of Past Presidents is displayed on a wooden plaque.
For its unspoilt 1930’s interior, the pub gets a listing in CAMRA’s National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.
At the end of the corridor, double doors leads out to a few steps up to the pub’s own immaculately tended bowling green. There’s seating round parts of the perimeter for spectators and players alike and, on the right hand side, is the clubhouse, resembling a mini cricket pavilion. On my recent visit, members were out practising in the warm spring sunshine and it is clear that the bowling green is a central focus of the pub’s activities. Pleasingly, plastic glasses are not required for outside drinking.
There’s a rather old fashioned, genteel and refined atmosphere throughout the pub, enhanced by the absence of TV’’s and fruit machines. On my mid week lunchtime visit, its popularity with diners, drinkers and bowls players was clearly evident.
It’s a Hydes pub and was offering Original, 1863 and Owd Oak from that brewery. Notably 2 guests were on – Marble’s Manchester Bitter and the rarely seen Brains IPA. An Allgates beer was coming next. Beers sampled were in good form.and the pub is a CAMRA Good Beer Guide regular.
I think it’s worth the shortish walk from Stockport town centre to do this one

The Nursery is an excellent 1930's pub, unspoilt with wood panelled rooms. Great seletion of Hydes beers and food is served at lunchtime. The large lounge is used as a dining room although you can dine in any of the rooms as it can get very busy. The pub also has a bowling green, with tables outside, great for outside summer drinking. This pub is well worth a short walk off the nearby A6.
