Steve C left this review about The Griffin Hotel

The Griffin Hotel is a large Holts pub with a central lobby bar that faces rooms up the right and rear, including a cupboard like snug and a couple of rooms with dartboards. This bar was unused so the aged locals were sitting in the bar area to the front left of the pub. It was actually quite busy for a Tuesday afternoon. There was some background music playing off the jukebox and all of the televisions were off, although Sky Sports is advertised so expect football when on. All the handpumps were badged with Holts Bitter so beer lovers aren’t going to be flocking here, but it’s well worth a visit to admire the interior.

ROB Camra left this review about The Griffin Hotel

A large multi roomed Holts roadhouse. Four main rooms and a tiny snug with wood panelled walls, bench seating down one side, but no tables, there isn't room. The bar is made from mahogany and looks great and there's lots of etched glass. 4 handpumps on the bar, 3 Holts beers on plus a pump with a beer from their subsidiary Bootleg with a "ready tomorrow" notice on it. The Holts Bitter was a very good pint and at £2.08 very cheap as usual. There's no food available these days, but they now have live bands on a Saturday night. This is a very good pub and I'll call in again when I'm next in the area.

Peter Edwardson left this review about The Griffin Hotel

A large Holt's pub with four separate rooms in the original building, plus an attractive etched-glass bar, and a comfortable modern extension. In recent years more emphasis has been put on food but it remains a proper pub and beer prices continue to be reasonable. Usually has a guest cask beer alongside the usual Holt's range. Beer garden at the rear and large car park.

The Griffin was a decent basic Joseph Holt tied house.
I had a drink of Bitter which was very nice.

Pub visited 9 March 1989.
