I was a little surpised to see six beers on the bar when entering this food-led pub. Five were from Cumbrian or local breweries (Great Corby, Keswick, Hawkshead and Cross Bay) plus Oakham Citra. I went for one of the two Great Corby beers (see photo), but it was clearly off. I had turned away from the bar before tasting the beer, and the next customers took five minutes ordering an enormous amount of food for lunch before I could voice my complaint. The woman who was serving tried pulling some more beer through before sniffing and tasting, and agreed that it was clearly not good. I tried the other Great Corby beer - the same - and in desperation even the Citra, but all the beers, it seemed, had turned. I was offered a bottle of something from the shelf, or a lager, but I preferred a refund, and made my way to the Black Cock instead.

Very much a gastro pub - we stayed for one and realised it wasnt really what we were after. Keswick Gold gave us a chance to get a tick on the Inn Way to the Lake District.

Yet another great pub! This one has nice accommodation and great beers, however it leans more toward a restaurant than an ale house. Having said all that, if it's beer you want then this is as good as the others, I sampled 'Beckstones Leat' Brilliant!!!
