I gave this pub 9 when I wrote my review below in 2016. On my latest visit there were seven beers available; I went for two that were sitting next to each other (see photo): Hawkshead Five Hop 5% and Logan Beck Proper 4%, brewed just over two miles from the pub. Contrasting styles but both in astonishingly good condition. I sat at the table with mouth agape, in awe of the quality of these beers. I think one of the criteria for NBSS 5 is that you change your plans and stay in the pub to have another. I seriously couldn't do that, but I did give some thought to how it might have been possible, including getting a hotel room, sleeping in the car, sleeping in the gutter...

I know that quarter marks have been outlawed by the Camra AGM, so I can't give 4.75 each. I make it 4.5 for the Logan Beck and 5 for the Hawkshead, but I could be wrong. As for the pub, it has to be 10, doesn't it.

Great boozers pub - from the decor, to the furniture, to the CAMRA certifications, where they appear to have cleaned up all the prizes for every year.

Yates Bitter in great condition.

Quite simply one of the best pubs in the Lake District, I'm tempted to say in the country. For consistent excellence over more than a quarter of a century, perhaps it deserves that accolade. I have been coming here for over 20 years, but never had time or opportunity to stop for more than one drink, as I was nearly always on my way to Wasdale with my mother or my daughters. It's been well described elsewhere as a daily beer festival, with as many as eight beers available, listed on the board near the bar with a suggested drinking order. Chance would be a fine thing.

Excellent pub on sleepy village square with a superb range of beers from near and far. One for some serious drinking.

I have since been back to this great little boozer on many occaisions and stayed in the accomodation. As always the beer is consistantly good quality and well kept, the staff and locals are really nice and the rooms are well equipt to a good standard, with a one of the best cooked breakfasts ever brought to your room, fantastic. If you are in the area, you must try it out.

Situated in the centre of Broughton in the market square is The Manor. This is a typical local boozer, full of characters that make you feel welcome and really great beer. There are 5 pumps with a wide selection of fine ales. I was drinking copper dragons' Golden Pippin beer which was one of the best beers I have tasted for some time, well worth a visit.
