The tiled and panelled bar on the left rear wall supports standard, premium and craft keg, and the three hand pumps were drawing Little Critters Raspberry Blonde, TT Landlord and Titanic’s Iceberg. There is a mix of seating at the front of the pub and in the right rear corner is some raised seating with stairs that lead up to the Genius Bar, that was closed during my recent quiet midweek evening visit. There was some background music playing and the televisions throughout were showing muted BT Sport. On a thin tiled supporting column opposite the bar is a picture of Alan Turing, which was the only link I found with him other than the pub’s Turing Tap moniker. If he was still around I doubt he would come here.

Visited again in the run up to Christmas 2021. Much unchanged although no issue with grumpy staff on this occasion! Six hand pulls, one of which was off, two were offering ciders, so that left Doom Bar, Banks's Brewdolph and Little Critters Little Hopper. The Little Hopper was fine, inoffensive if unexciting. Will happily visit again, but hopefully the beer selection will be improved.

Visited mid December, Saturday evening. An interesting enough cask beer selection - two Christmas themed ales from Ilkley, a raspberry stout, and two ciders. I had the Holy Raspberry by Ilkley which was very pleasant. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the service which was, frankly, miserable. Not helped by receiving an obscenely short measure that we had to ask to be topped up. With the exception of the doorman, who was nice and friendly, the rest of the staff we saw looked like they didn't want to be there. They weren't rushed off their feet either, so there wasn't even that excuse that they were overworked and harassed.

I'd go again for the beer, in the hope that the bar staff have either changed or are having a better day.

Description below is pretty spot on but luckily 3 of the handpumps were on this afternoon. Very student friendly as you would expect though.

Many years ago this was a new build Hogshead when that chain was in its pomp. Now it's a bit like a small Wetherspoons with a very similar looking menu. There are 2 floors available for seating and the upstairs room has a pool table. There's a bar upstairs but it has no real ale and is only opened at busy times. 6 handpumps on the downstairs bar, but only 2 ales available. Hobgoblin and the rather more interesting Hogsback TEA which was a decent pint. Quite busy on my Friday afternoon visit, but this may have been due to a short torrential downpour. It's not great, but it's better than some of the other pubs in the area.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Oxford

Busy student-type pub with a range of seating areas on different levels. Cluttered up with promotional material for various cheap food and drink offers. Slightly surprised to see as many as four of the five handpumps in operation in the main ground-floor bar; offering a reasonable selection of Hobgoblin, Bombardier, Wobbly Bob and Roosters YPA (£2.35). There is also another bar located upstairs but this was not manned when I visited. Not really my sort of place, but the beer was fine.

The Oxford is a large corner establishment sitting on the Oxford Road halfway between Manchester University and the Royal Infirmary, and close to The Academy.
Therefore it is popular with students and workers from the Infirmary.
Both inside and outside it has the air of a Wetherspoons. A fairly big expanse of a building that looked like it was formerly something else other than a pub, plastic food menus on every table, lots of cheep drinks offers everywhere, and a chain pub feel.
It is not a ‘spoons but some other type of chain pub, and the only significant difference I could see was that the drinks offerings were more standard and less choice than your average spoons. But other than that it was difficult to tell.
There were four hand pumps on the bar but only one if these seemed to be in operation when I visited, which I guess is due to not having the throughput from the target demographic.
I would imagine that this venue is very good if you are a student (especially one in the close by halls) or a worker at the MRI, or going to the Academy.
