This pub is right on the very busy A316. There is a Premier Travel Inn immediately behind it, making the general area reminiscent of a motorway service area. It’s a fairly large and impressive looking pub, but the forecourt was essentially a car park, with cars manoeuvring to get back onto the main road when I visited during the week. There were a few picnic benches in the porch area, being used by smokers. The interior reminded me of a Wetherspoons, but without the ales, and a smell of cooking hits you as you enter. I saw three handpumps on the bar; two were apparently not being used, or had clips reversed; the third promising the prospect of Wadworth’s 6X, but unfortunately this too had apparently just gone off when I arrived. But perhaps I was just unlucky, and at another time a potential drinker might get a decent ale choice here. If you need to get off the main road for some reason then this pub clearly serves a purpose, but I can’t see any reason to make a return visit.
