Real Ale Ray left this review about Bakers Arms

This pub was very busy on our visit, with predominately blokes over spilling into adjacent yard area. The interior was standard with a few large screen TVs showing the horse racing, plus there was a dart board over in the corner. The beer choice on handpump was Doombar, Spitfire and Rockin Rudolph.

Hidden away down an alleyway,The Bakers Arms is very much an old school locals pub.Traditional in its make up and clientele. There are four handpumps on the bar but these were doubled up with a choices of Sheps Spitfire and Robinsons Dizzy Blonde. It was reasonably busy on a sunday afternoon and worth seeking out for a pint.

Really feels like a locals pub which is somewhat hidden away, I don't think this place has the most friendly of atmospheres but it is acceptable nontheless.

Old Boots left this review about Bakers Arms

A former Watneys pub that used to be very popular with soldiers when the Rifle Brigade was based in the city centre as the military badges over the bar still testify. A pub lurking in a passage or alleyway that leads from the High Street to Market Lane. Fairly bland décor with odd bits of Victoriana still apparent, its old Watneys Bayeux Tapestry style pub sign is hung on the wall. Friendly staff and customers, the beers are from Shepherd Neame, Spitfire and Kentish with Ringwood possibly as a guest. My Spitfire had obviously come off worst in an engagement with a ME109.

Certainly quite local, but certainly didn't find the quality of punter on a par with the Rising Sun. Old skool interior (hmmm, make that 'stuck in the late 70's), quite lively with good music. Could see how this would be a good warm-up pub on a night out. A fairly limited selection of ales, my Spitfire was alright though but my fellow crawlees Youngs Ordinary was poor in my opinion. I wasn't too bothered by this place.
