A pleasant roadside pub which remains a freehouse and is rather welcoming, unless you’re under 25, in which case a sign at the door makes it clear you should not enter. There is a large car park at the side and some reserved spaces for blue badge holders at the front. It’s now open plan, though you can see where the original rooms were. The main dining part is carpeted, the bar area has wooden flooring and there is a welcoming fire making it a cosy place to sit and enjoy a few beers. Food is the standard pub grub style, reasonably priced, plus curry nights. The landlady was a bit fierce but helpful nonetheless. There were 3 ales on from Flowerpots , NZ Pale Ale, Goodens Gold and Pots Bitter, all in very good condition. A most enjoyable visit and worth making a diversion.
