Standards appear to be slipping in this busy roadside pub, which is far more interested in fleecing passers-by than offering a good pub experience. The outside is looking quite shabby, the young staff are indolent and, in one case, sarcastic, while the management are too busy being aloof to speak to customers. Their website has crashed, another symptom of decline. Prices are excessive:£6.80 for a pint of Golden, which was not in top form, and a packet of pork scratchings seemed a bit unreasonable. I won't be angling to come back.

This thatched roof Wadsworth tied house is bang on the A31,accessable from the southbound carriageway. However once inside you do not notice the busy road and on the otherside of the carpark the fast flowing River Avon is a picturesque feature. The bar is opposite the side entrance and the lobby here has a log burner and a low ceiling giving a cosy feel to an area where you can pitch down for a drink. The other sections away from the bar are set up for dining, and most lunchtime visitors on my trip were eating. The interior can swallow up a lot of customers without the pub appearing to be crowded.
Well cooked pub grub ,at a reasonable price with decent portion sizes and table service. The four handpumps were serving Wadsworth 6X,Dray Bells,Bishops Tipple (in decent shape) and Ringwood Bitter, not the most exciting range but perfectly adequate to the wash down the grub.
Better than I thought it would be,a convenient refuelling stop on the way to pastures more exciting.

A fairly big, invariably busy, roadside dining pub, situated on the main west bound carriageway of the A31. The big car park often feels small, particlarly at lunch times, Wednesday, market day in the town, being the worst.
Despite the emphasis on food, this is still a pub with, usually, four real ales, the selection of which does not match the quality.
A bit like the ale, an extensive 'blackboard' menu promises much, yet doesn't always quite deliver.
Despite all that you can usually get parked somewhere, the beer is good and I doubt you'll have too much complaint about the food.
My rating of 7, which might be a little generous, is based on the way the Fish goes about doing what it does well, better than most of it's ilk.
