Graham Coombs left this review about The Maypole

Back in the day this was my favourite pub on the island, but sadly it is a shadow of its former self. It felt a bit as though it had recently changed hands, so perhaps things might improve. I am sure that the strange baronial ceiling in the main room did not use to be there, and it has acquired one of the obligatory raised seating areas for no apparent reason. Other bits of bizarre decor include brick effect wallpaper and too much varnished pine, all detracting from the nice 1930s building. An emphasis on food seems to have driven out any traditional pub activities, although one TV hangs on a wall. Despite all that, the area round the bar is properly and comfortably set out for drinkers. The back room, which at least still carries the original 'Tea Room' lettered window, is a further dining area and moderately pleasant and there are gardens to the rear. Draught ales on were London Pride and HSB, with a couple of reversed clips.

Fuller's foody pub in an attractive building that has plenty of character across the two rooms - varnished wood panelling, chequerboard fireplace, original leaded windows, attractive bar and windowed upper gantry. Cast your eyes around to see the jugs on high shelves, plus assorted taxidermy and mounted animal skulls. Perhaps unusually in the operational context of the pub, there’s a dart board. Three ales on over four pumps; Seafarers, Pride and a decent HSB, served up by friendly staff. Also seemed cheaper than the average Fuller's pub. I quite liked it in here.

Michael Wright left this review about The Maypole Inn

Popped in following aborted visit to Ferryboat Inn

Friendly welcome, Fullers pub, normal Fullers / Gales beers & lagers etc, nothing to write home about, I had Gales Butser at £2.70 which was OK

Serves home cooked food from local sources if possible, with separate restaurant area if required. Very limited or zero vegetarian options if that is what you may want

One large bar, with dining area + restaurant area, ample parking, has field adjacent for overflow, bus stop nearby as well

Only 2 stars due to limited beer choice, otherwise 3
