A superb town pub with a traditional red-tiled front in a residential area away from the Town Centre, previously a Gales house whose HSB was legendary. Annoyingly, a large "Fuller's. Smart's and Tanner's" mirror hangs in pride pf place - is this the brewery rubbing Gale's fans' noses in it or just being insensitive? The pub stands on a corner and is triangular in shape, with a nice garden to the rear. The downstairs has been knocked through to form a single bar, part carpeted and part boarded. There is a dartboard and an unobtrusive gaming machine, and more amusingly, a bunch of local wittering loudly about football. Stained glass windows, prints of old Gosport and some likable pub dogs all add to the atmosphere, while the staff were most welcoming. Three ales on, all Fullers. I had a pint of HSB [2.0] which was in excellent condition but still didn't taste like the real thing. This pub is well worth seeking out as it's one of Gosport's best.
