E TA left this review about Carisbrooke Arms

A rather awful single storey estate pub, probably 1970s, on a roundabout on the main road, one of Mr Poulson's failed experiments, by the look of it. An outside verandah makes it look a bit third-worldly. It houses a single large bar with the world's worst carpet, battered and broken seats, unwelcoming locals (with the exception of a rather sad looking dog)and unappetising food which, if you could bring yourself to eat it, would be guaranteed to cure both anorexia and vegetarianism. Lots of parties and sports events advertised (clearly for watchers rather than players), so the pub does actually fulfill an important role as a community hub although as already implied, the fabric and fittings are in a sorry state. The best beer on offer was Speckled Hen which had had the life frozen out of it and was badly kept. It's great for locals who enjoy loud, uncomfortable social events, but unless you fall into that category, I would suggest avoiding.
