Lovely little thatched building set in - as OB describes well - “what looks like a middle class hinterland and the customers are also a bit of a mixture”. A John Barras house so a little less lovely within. Two rooms, public-style bar to left with darts board and muted darts match on two TVs along with a jukebox. Loungey area a bit plusher with a bit of an olde worlde feel in the front part. Beer garden to rear. WiFi available. Pretty busy on my weekday evening visit. Only two ales on three pumps, Broadside (pretty good) and Brains SA. As is usual in a JB, basic pub grub offered. Amused to see a psychic night advertised outside. A bit of a yomp from the immediate town centre but not too bad from Farnborough Main BR. So-so, if the ale range was better like it was on OB’s visit I’d be tempted to score it higher. But it wasn’t so I won’t.

This is an lovey looking pub that has terrible attitude. If you can put up with the foul smells, foul language and alchopop teens and actually get a drink you may well find yourself being chastised for complaining about the poor service, poor beer and abusive language. There are much better pubs in the area and quite honestly why would you sponsor such a hostile environment. Whoever runs this pub please review your aggressive policy towards paying customers. Whoever thinks about visiting this pub please think again. A charming historic building full of not so charming people.

Sound pub with excellent real ale choice. One of Farnborough's best pubs, possibly the best. Holds a quiz night, slightly strange local crowd takes a point off.

Old Boots left this review about The Thatched Cottage

Tweely decorated old looking pub with genuine half timbering and nice carpets. The staff are an odd mixture of surliness and knowledge. Set in what looks like a middle class hinterland the customers are also a bit of a mixture, various ages of diners and drinkers mingling with medallion wearing builder types and uncouth youth. Food not inspiring or indeed competently warmed up. The beer however, more than makes up for any peculiarities in the ambiance etc, a range of 6 very well kept ales from Scotland, Yorkshire, Suffolk and locally from Hampshire and Surrey. Absolutely worth visiting and definitely one of the better pubs in Farnborough.
