A Greene King country pub in a red brick Victorian house (possibly with earlier roots), one of their Meet and Eat chain with a wonderful riverside location in a picturesque village. There is a small car park and a pleasant paved garden. Inside, the single bar is nicely decorated and feels open and airy. There are lots of wine bottles on display around the walls, but if you look closely it’s not very good wine, just pretty bottles. The staff were unengaging and visually unappealing, and there was the smell of bad food as you enter. Three ales on draft, Speckled Hen, Abbott and GK IPA, not that well kept but just about drinkable. Fine if passing, but I wouldn’t make the effort other than for the location.

The Fisherman’s rest is rubbish and I won’t be using that place again, decided to pop in for a drink last weekend (3rd May) with my wife and friends, only to be told very rudely by the Landlord to leave as it was a private function. The place looked open as usual, with no one stopping you from going in, he made you look as if you had just gate crashed the function. So to all who like a local pub with some atmosphere and friendly staff, avoid the Fisherman’s as it’s crap.
