Previously known as a gay bar, this Victorian roadside pub is now used by a wider section of the community as an eating and drinking stop. Sadly, the kitchen closes ridiculously early so we were not able to eat here this time. The single L-shaped bar has gaming machines and is carpeted . The atmosphere is calm, interrupted only by the football blaring from the tv (I mean flat screens, just to avoid ambiguity in this case), and the pub is dog-friendly. The locals were welcoming, but the staff was a little hostile. There were 2 ales on - had a pretty decent pint of Young's Bitter. Good to drop in if passing.

The Load of hay at Watford Heath. A real treat, found this pub whilst driving to Harrow. We stopped off for lunch, a real traditional local pub, nothing fancy, just good honest pub food and drinks at honest prices (not sure how they make a profit) The staff at the Load of Hay were friendly and polite and could not help out enough. Its a mixed friendly crowd from all walks of life. They have a Quiz Night every Monday which is always busy, so arrive early if you want to get a table. All in all a great well run pub.
