Bucking Fastard left this review about The Star

An attractive pub in the picturesque village of Standon opposite the church and close to some fine Georgian buildings, don't be put off by the Greene King signage, this is far removed from a chain pub grub outlet.
The interior has a lot of original fireplaces, one doubled sided which breaks up the interior space. To the right in a new wooden glad extension is a dining area, while to the left of the building is a raised side area with it's own bar access.Although the flooring is pine and slatted window blinds partly obscure every window, overall there is a traditional feel to the interior and some good original features.
Outside there is a substantial and very well tendered beer garden with a floodlit patanque court below the side car park. Many tables and benches have umberellas and you can hear the bird song.a charming spot.
The food is home cooked and very tasty ranging from sandwiches, baguettes to a variety of mains with several daily specials.Mains generally around £12 but worth paying for the quality.
On my trip three real ale in GK Abbott,St Austell Tribute and a well kept Crouch Vale Brewers Gold.Clearly more than just dull GK beers are offered which along with very decent food and a friendly welcome indicates that although this was my first trip,it certainly won't be my last.
