Bucking Fastard left this review about Drapers Arms

A weird looking place,it gave me the impression that some pubco corporate type had been to an Antic pub in London and decided to copy the concept in Stevenage, and has failed. The frontage is dominated by shop windows in plate glass and inside this area is full of ranks of very standard dining type tables, totally soulless. However beyond this is the bar to the left and opposite three curved banquettes in light green leather with some strange lamp shades above and chintzy wallpaper. To the side here is a raised section with a mix of old and new furniture while up a further set of steps is a pleasing looking alcove with some interesting furniture followed by a series of dining tables leading to a large rear garden. There are BT Sport screen everywhere and very distracting despite being on mute.
At the bar there are 6 handpumps offering Doom Bar,Hobgoblin,Rockin'Rudolph,GKIPA,St Austell Tribute (passable) with one clip turned.
The food menu looks value orientated pub grub, and the barmaid seemed disinterested, drumming her fingers while I swiftly counted out the exact £1.45 for a short measure half of Tribute, before moaning to her colleagues about clocking on problems and other staff gripes.I then noticed that the pub stays open until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays with a DJ ,which might explain their issues. However the pub was very quiet on my afternoon visit.
Too corporate and not at all comfortable, there are better pubs close by.
