Will Larter left this review about The New Crown Inn

An old, whitewashed building in a tidy but not exceptionally pretty village in the Eden valley. At the time of my visit (Sunday afternoon) there were numerous cars parked outside the pub, but as I entered, the last two customers were leaving. Seemingly all the car parking was for the church opposite - I hope some of their owners popped in for a pint or something to eat afterwards, as the four staff on duty (plus whoever was in the kitchen) were itching for someone to serve.

My request for a half of Hesket Newmarket Helvellyn Gold was met with enthusiasm, and the beer was indeed in very good condition and reasonably priced. The other two hand pumps had one reversed pump clip and Old Rosie Cider. The interior of the pub has obviously had a recent refurbishment, with grey woodwork and cream walls, and it only requires a few customers to liven the place up and make it feel more welcoming. Perhaps my departure will have sounded the starting pistol for a busy afternoon session. (An A-board outside mentioned a Sunday quiz, but the date was for the previous Sunday, so I don't know if this is a regular or an intermittent event.)
