Quite honestly, pubs like this are not my cup of tea, and I only called in because I had a bit of time to spare before the match kicked off (Glasshoughton Welfare v Hallam FC, Northern Counties East Division 1) and there are only four other pubs on the stretch before the ground. The Cask Marque plaque next to the door raised my hopes a little, even though both hand pumps were Greene King IPA, but on enquiring it turned out there was no real ale on. The lass behind the bar mumbled something about deliveries, but I wasn't really paying attention. My half of Guinness was ok, although a bit pricey at £2.15. Quite a few people were in and eating but I didn't look at the food or the menu. The football match turned out to be one of the worst games I've ever seen, but I had a much better time there than I did here.

my partner and i were celebrating and as a suprise he took me out 4 a meal to the singing chocker as i love the tear and share garlic bread and chicken.it was a cold day as it was snowing outside.it was not much warmer inside.we sat down in the resturant and we had a draft on our legs.as we already knew what we wanted my partner went to order our meal only to be told they were out of galic bread so my partner ordered 2 seperate starters one they had again run out of.we decided to leave our starter and have a desert later so we ordered our main to be told they were out of the chicken.how busy had they been when we arrived there were 4 couples in.we left with out eating and went some where else.i have been to this pub many times and found it realy nice.i enjoy the food although we have had some complaints.the staff a few to mention are really nice and plesant normally they must be having a few bad days as the last 3 times now it has not been as enjoyable.needless to say we wont be going back for a few months.

Called in here one evening, Chose a table next to a radiator and ordered food. Sat down to find the radiator was switched off!!! Later found out the heating wasnt on at all, Surprising really as it had been snowing all day. Seeing everyone sat in their coats while dining was a quite unusual sight and should have started alarm bells ringing. Food arrived, 2/10 at best. A medium rare steak was dry as a bone and overcooked, the chips were bland and the vegetables lukewarm and tasteless.
As for the staffs knowledge of the dishes being served I overheard the lady taking the orders tell another unfortunate customer, who asked for a dish without cheese, that she would be ok with the steak with stilton as it didnt contain any cheese. Really!

Visited this pub for my mums retirement. It followed a particularly bad couple of months after her daughter had tried to end her own life on two occasions, her grandson of 18 months was diagnosed with Guillian Barres Syndrome and her husband had been diagnosed with cancer. Mum had wanted to cancel the night but we said that it might do her good.
Of the 13 meals ordered, only 7 were served. 6 had to be re-ordered and arrived after the other party members had finished their meals (one of these was still wrong), and they tasted like the staff had found the meals and then re-warmed them. As compensation I asked the manager if they could send my mother a bouquet of flowers with an appology to which he agreed. Still waiting.

A fairly new family pub built in the 1990's. It's name was chosen after a competition by the pub chain. The pub stands close to where the Glasshoughton Colliery used to be. A popular worker at the pit whose job was to "chock up" the coal faces, also was known to do his fair share of singing while he worked!
Very popular when it first opened, but now has the Xscape complex close by, so trade has suffered. 2 for 1 meal deals still make it very popular.
