Steve C left this review about Retreat

The Retreat Bar opens at midday and is open until midnight during the week, 01:30 on Fridays and 02:30 on Saturdays so I think that this place is aimed at a younger party crowd. Food is served from midday until 15:00, but I wouldn’t go here to eat and I was the only customer at 13:30 on the recent Wednesday that I visited. The interior is pretty bare with lots of standing room and I didn’t spot any hand pumps in amongst the draught taps. Karaoke is advertised for Wednesday evenings and there was some low background music playing during my stay. There is a good sized beer garden out the back with some seating.

This place is probably left to the youth of Tunbridge Wells.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Retreat

The proper name for this pub is the Clarence, but in recent times it seems to change almost every year (with periods as Jailhouse, Charles Stapely, Bisuit Factory and Sound Garden - there are probably more!). Anyway, the interior has been totally stripped out, painted in mostly dark colours and generally underlit (apart from the bar). The signs outside advertise food (although I can't imagine anybody coming here to eat), Sky Sports TV (no sign) and karaoke (possible, I suppose, but as there were exactly zero customers in the place, who knows?). Limited amount of modern furniture. Surprisingly there is a handpump offering Greene King IPA (£3.35). 'Happy hours' extend as late as 10 pm on some days, so perhaps it livens up late in the evening.
