Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The British Lion
Excellent pub, justifiably busy with Saturday lunchtime drinkers and diners. Traditional furniture and decor. Small side patio. Abbot, Old Golden Hen, Bombardier and Youngs Gold on offer from the five handpumps. Lots of nibbles on the bar as you would expect at a traditional place like this. Large portions of good-value food. Welcoming staff. Always a pleasure to return, and thoroughly recommended.

I arrived at the British Lion around 17:00 on Monday afternoon last week, but unfortunately the pub is closed between 16:00 and 19:00 during the week. I decided to wander around a few other drinking establishments before returning at 19:30 to find the pub open with twenty or so other customers already in situ. To the right of the entrance were some tables set for dining and the bar to the left stretches towards the rear of the pub. There are hops hanging from the ceiling in the bar area and the walls are adorned with old photos and some books are available for reading. I didn’t spot any televisions and I do not recall there being any background music.
The bar is stocked with standard draught and the five hand pumps were drawing Greene King’s Old Speckled Hen and Abbot Ale alongside Skinner’s Betty Stogs and Young’s London Gold (x2). Food is available from midday, when the pub opens, until 14:30 and from 19:00 until 21:00 except Tuesdays when the kitchen is closed in the evening.
Out the back is an enclosed terrace garden that houses five café tables.
I liked it in here and would have no hesitation in returning.

One of Folkestone's oldest pubs (records show a pub here since arond 1640), the British Lion is a welcoming, cosy establishment currently owned by Pubmaster having previously been a Whitbread pub. A thriving local community has card and darts teams. Normally 2 GK and two guest beers, and localy procured food is served, simple but good-value fare. A good old fashioned town pub which deserves its GBG entry. I had a pint of GK IPA which was well kept, served at the right temperature and was exactly what was needed. Well worth a visit when in town, and should form part of any town crawl.

An attractive exterior which shows the buildings age, it claims to be the oldest in Folkestone. Paid two visits recently, walking in on an 18th Birthday party on the first but we were still looked after. The second visit was quieter and we had time to sample the guest ales, I thinks it's a Greene King pub but they usually have two guests. The Double Maxim was drinkable but probably on it's way out but the Butcombe IPA was top class. A good pub and I'd recommend a visit, combined with the Guildhall just up the road.

Four ales on – two of which I'd never seen before. And chillied pickled eggs too. We stayed in this place for quite a while. Chatting to the barman it transpires this place co-ordinates it's beer list with the Guildhall down the road to cater for those who visit the town for a pub crawl. Nice to know someone's thinking of me…
