Brainy Pool left this review about The Hope and Anchor

A huge ghastly drinking barn just off Hardman Street, this is one of my least favourite pubs in Liverpool along with the Flute up the road. It’s a sprawling, shiny place with big screens everywhere and always a particularly irritating kind of student clientele whenever i’m in. No real ale though lots of craft keg fonts (labelled with numbers 1-10). I know some people like places like this but I find it horrendous.

Old Boots left this review about The Hope and Anchor

This pub has the famous painting “the Scream” as a pub sign which is probably quite apt; it’s the kind of place you either love or it makes you scream. A big open plan drinking space on two floors with an outdoor area. General purpose industrial décor in dark colours with a mix of seating in almost every style ever used in bars and pubs. Four pool tables spread around the downstairs room. Keg beers and pre-mixed spirits very much the order of things here. Bar service was fine but as it was before the 9pm BOF watershed the place wasn’t too busy with its under 30 target punters, even so I did notice a few unfinished drinks left about the place. On the plus side I did find 5p on my seat!
